What's Behind the Wall?

The 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games will soon be held, and the local government is now taking full advantage of this best excuse to spend a lot of money on making the city look better. While the city is busy with building the Olympic Park, it is also doing its best to prevent people who come to visit this city catch a glimpse of the reality of this city.

Months ago, the local government built a highway, with “sound-proof” walls on both sides, to transport visitors from the airport to the Olympic Park. But people soon figure out the truth is that the government wants the scene of the poor city with black, barefoot residents out of the world’s sight, and only show visitors the fancy, shiny school which just finished construction.

In today’s Rio de Janeiro , things like this happen everywhere and make the residents extremely frustrated. Bus lines are built to separate the so-called "poor zone" and "rich zone"; citizens are forced to leave their home and live in public housing that is far out of sight; houses of citizens are under reconstruction for economic reasons without their permission; the police use violence against citizens who are not willing to move out of their own houses. People there are under great pain, with their basic rights, such as housing and get access to food, being violated by their own government. Rio de Janeiro is under its changes into a city for rich people to visit, however, poor residents who are treated inhumanely have to stay there in their whole lifetime.
