Behind him, other supporters of a clean Montana are seated. In Southeast Montana, community members have successfully kept Arch Coal and Toungue River Railroad company from establishing mining facilities that would jeopardize the land that they live on.
These members did not just rise up on the day of a hearing however. Arch Coal has been trying to access Montana's reserves for a while, obtaining leases to land as early as 2010. People from the Northern Cheyenne tribe, who have been in the area since before the the United States was established, united with Amish people and local ranchers to call for politicians to remain accountable to the people who elected them as opposed to their pocketbook.
